About

Hunter Glenn Estate

With a small barn and 5 acres of grapes, Jeffrey Jr., his sister Caroline and their mother Ellen, are starting their own legacy.   Jeffrey Jr. is responsible for the wines; bringing his immense farming talent, deep ties in the Napa Valley, and light handed approach in the cellar.  Caroline is responsible for building relationships throughout the United States and managing the daily sales efforts on property.  Last but not least, Ellen will always have the final call on the Chardonnay as the resident Burgundy expert on the team.

Where the Napa Valley legacy begins...

The Shifflett family arrived in the Napa Valley, by way of Iowa and the vast potato and corn fields.  In 1942, after a successful run in the lumber business, Wade Sr. and his wife Mary Elizabeth purchased a picture-perfect 120 acres in the foothills of the Mayacamas Range.  Affectionately dubbed "The Ranch" it quickly became the family's favorite place to farm, graze and relax.

Over the past 75 years weekends and holidays were spent enjoying the great outdoors and all "The Ranch" had to offer.  In the late 1970's with grandchildren on the horizon, Wade Jr. and Wife Olga partnered with their children to seize the opportunity and create a legacy, planting 60 acres of grapes alongside their orchards and cattle.

The first blocks of Chardonnay were finally planted in 1981, a painstaking process in which the third generation of Shiffletts undertook.  Moving to give up cattle and take up grapes is something that has become part of the lore of the Shifflett Ranch.  Since then, with Phylloxera, Pierce's Disease, and volatile weather, some might have stuck with cattle.

The Shiffletts have embraced the challenge to grow and sell some of the most sought after grapes in the Napa Valley; a steadfast source of quality, consistency, and sustainable farming.  For over 30 years, grapes sourced from the Shifflett Family have garnered great scores from critics.  Today, "The Ranch" is still managed by the family, with Jeffrey Jr. at the helm in farming and his aunt, Kathryn, serving as general manager.
